Georgetown University’s Department of Computer Science offers a fully funded Ph.D. program designed to prepare students for research and teaching careers in academia and for research and technical careers in industry and government. The program emphasizes a strong foundation in computer science and mathematics, preparing students for graduate-level coursework and research.

Funding Package

The Ph.D. program offers a comprehensive five-year funding package, which includes:​

  • Annual Stipend: A yearly stipend to support living expenses.

  • Tuition Remission: Full tuition coverage for 9 credits per semester.

  • Health Insurance: Health insurance coverage for five consecutive years.

  • Teaching Assistantship: Students are required to work up to 15 hours per week for the first four years as Teaching Assistants for first-year, second-year, or third-year intensive computer science courses. During the fifth year, students receive a non-service stipend scholarship to support dissertation research. ​

Additionally, all doctoral students in good standing are eligible for travel funds each year. Currently, this amount is set to $1,000, but it may change based on available funding. Students can use these funds to attend any academic conference that is useful for their studies. This money cannot be rolled over from one year to the next.
