Job Description

The Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) program is a federally funded initiative aimed at improving the health of infants, children, and adolescents with or at risk for neurodevelopmental disabilities. It achieves this by preparing trainees from diverse professional disciplines to assume leadership roles and by promoting high levels of interdisciplinary clinical competence.

Role Description:
LEND programs provide long-term, graduate-level interdisciplinary training as well as interdisciplinary services and care. Trainees engage in a combination of didactic and experiential learning, including clinical practice, research, and community-based activities. The program emphasizes person- and family-centered care, cultural competence, and leadership development to prepare participants to improve systems of care for individuals with neurodevelopmental disabilities.

  • Location: LEND programs are located across the United States, including in every state, the District of Columbia, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and six Pacific Basin jurisdictions. Each program operates within a university system, often as part of a University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD).

  • Application Cycle: Annually; application periods and deadlines vary by program.

  • What You’ll Need:

    • Enrollment in or completion of a graduate-level program in a relevant field (e.g., medicine, psychology, social work, speech-language pathology).

    • For some programs, individuals without a graduate degree may participate if they enroll in an affiliated degree program or have demonstrated exemplary leadership in the field.

  • Preferred or Required Qualifications:

    • Clinical and/or relevant experience with individuals with disabilities and their families.

    • Evidence of leadership experience and potential.

    • Commitment to improving the status of people with disabilities and their families.

    • Strong academic record.

    • Ability to commit the time necessary to complete the program successfully.

  • Benefits and Perks:

    • Stipends are available for eligible participants; amounts and eligibility criteria vary by program.

    • Comprehensive training in interdisciplinary care, leadership, and policy.

    • Opportunities to engage in clinical practice, research, and community-based activities.

    • Networking with professionals, self-advocates, and family members across disciplines.

  • Where and How You Can Apply:

    • Applications are submitted through individual LEND program websites.
