The North Carolina Sea Grant STEM Policy Post-Graduate Fellowship offers recent graduates from North Carolina institutions the opportunity to serve full-time for one year in high-level state government offices. Fellows focus on policy topics related to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), contributing their expertise to inform decision-making processes at the state level.
Role Description:
Fellows are placed within various North Carolina state agencies, where they engage in policy analysis, program development, and stakeholder engagement related to STEM fields. Through this immersive experience, fellows gain firsthand knowledge of the policy-making process and contribute to initiatives that impact the state’s scientific and technological landscape.

Application Cycle: Annually

What You’ll Need:
-
A master’s or other advanced degree in a STEM or STEM-related discipline from an accredited North Carolina institution, conferred between July 31, 2023, and December 31, 2024.

A strong interest in science policy and public service.

Preferred or Required Qualifications:

Demonstrated commitment to public service and the application of STEM expertise to policy-making.

Excellent communication and analytical skills.

Ability to work collaboratively within governmental and interdisciplinary teams.

Benefits and Perks:

Annual stipend of $52,500.

$2,000 in travel support for professional development and networking opportunities.

Participation in a policy workshop through a partnership with Sigma Xi, the international honor society of science and engineering.
