1. 02 Fully Funded PhD in VIRTUTRIALS
Summary of Funded PhD Program
The PhD students are employed through the project VIRTUTRIALS, financed by the ERC. The project addresses concerns about the legitimacy and fairness of courtroom trials conducted via video links, challenging the assumption that the lack of physical interaction undermines justice. It aims to explore how the absence of physical presence affects trial participation, credibility displays, and justice rituals. Using a multi-methods approach, including ethnography, interviews, text analyses and quantitative analysis, VIRTUTRIALS seeks to provide new insights into the evolving nature of trials and virtual participation in a digitalized world.

5. Fully Funded PhD in System Immunology
Summary of Funded PhD Program
This PhD project will explore the complex interaction between the immune and reproductive systems, focusing on how sex hormones like testosterone and estrogen influence immune function and reproductive outcomes. The research will examine immune-reproductive crosstalk in two cohorts: women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) who naturally have higher testosterone levels, and women undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF). The project aims to uncover how metabolic and reproductive factors affect immunity, and how immune responses impact IVF success. Ultimately, the study seeks to provide a deeper understanding of the immune-endocrine relationship and its role in both reproduction and immune health.

6. Fully Funded PhD in Physics focusing on theoretical analysis of superfluids
Summary of Funded PhD Program
This PhD project sets focus on investigating, describing, and modelling phenomena and properties of ultra-cold atomic quantum gases and liquids that can be described in the framework of many-body quantum physics. The doctoral student is expected to work in the field of theoretical many-particle quantum physics. Focus is on the development of theoretical models to describe the properties of heteronuclear Bose-Einstein kondensat and similar superfluids. The theoretical work will focus on the theoretical modelling and understanding of new quantum-optical systems where quantum fluctuations prevail. The work will imply both analytical calculations and numerical simulations.
Application Deadline: 06.Nov.2024
7. Fully Funded PhD in medical science
Summary of Funded PhD Program
The project investigates new cell biological functions of the complement regulators CD59 and COMP. The focus is on their potential role in diseases such as diabetes, Alzheimer’s, and certain types of cancer. The project is experimental and involves many advanced cell and molecular biology methods, as well as animal models.

8. Fully Funded PhD in Physics within nanowire based light emitting diodes
Summary of Funded PhD Program
Lund Nano Lab is well equipped with several epitaxy machines and processing tools as well as characterization equipment, all in a clean room environment. In addition, we have access to advanced characterization equipment outside Lund Nano Lab, such as local access to electro-optical characterization, and measurements of internal and external quantum efficiency as well as low temperature photoluminescence characterization and electrical characterization, and more, to determine materials properties. The close collaboration within NanoLund provides access to transmission electron microscopy as well as MAXIV, which contributes to the advanced characterization of the material’s crystal properties and deeper insights into parameters that affect them.

9. Fully Funded PhD in Physics on experimental quantum technology
Summary of Funded PhD Program
The focus of this project is to realize a small quantum communication node, based on qubits consisting of individual ions of rare earth’s (Lanthanides). Such a communication node can later store entangled quantum states and send out photons that can entangle several other such nodes with each other. This node is a key component for several quantum technologies, also extending to quantum computing and quantum optics. In order to be able to detect individual ions, the project uses an optical micro-cavity to amplify the interaction.

12. Fully Funded PhD in Industrial Electrical Engineering with a focus on Electric Propulsion Systems for Jet Engines
Summary of Funded PhD Program
In the aviation industry, there is a need for a new electric architecture to accommodate future electric subsystems and the ability to manage higher powers for all electric and electronic (avionics) systems. An important transition is from today’s three-phase 115 Volt AC / 400 Hz power distribution to a direct current (DC) system with 270 Volt DC. This DC system will connect power electronics and electric machines for both electricity generation driven from the gas turbine’s main shafts, for the drive/start of the gas turbine, and for driving several pumps and other loads. In all cases, the new systems must withstand extreme environments, have very high operational reliability, and be smaller and lighter than their conventional predecessors.
