The doctoral research project will be performed in the group of Prof. Dr. Carolin Wendling and address ecological and evolutionary drivers of prophage distribution in common gut commensals and pathogens, using a combination of high-throughput bioinformatic analysis, RNA-seq, and in-vitro microbiology assays.
We are seeking a highly motivated young researcher, who would like to pursue a Ph.D. thesis in an interdisciplinary and international research environment. We anticipate applicants with an excellent previous scientific training, very good spoken and written English communication skills, and the ability to work independently as well as part of the ERC-funded PHAGE-PRO team, which will develop a novel form of phage therapy. The successful applicant will have a strong background in bioinformatics. Experience in microbiology, ideally BSL2 pathogens and (pro)phages will be beneficial for successful completion of the project but can in parts be acquired as part of the PhD project. Applicants with a complete undergraduate degree (Master or equivalent) in the life sciences, biomedical or natural sciences will be considered.
