1. Fully Funded PhD in Hybrid Quantum Systems
Summary of Funded PhD Program
The Hybrid Quantum Systems Laboratory at Chalmers is a new laboratory at Chalmers that will exploit the exquisite control over light enabled by photonics. Nanofabrication of photonic integated circuits and mechanical oscillators with ultralow loss is at the heart of our research. Cold atoms are the third ingredient, and we will use the tools of atomic physics to cool and trap atoms and couple their quantum states to light and mechanical motion. By exploiting this interaction, we will probe quantum physics at the macroscopic scale. The systems we develop will be exquisite spin sensors, enabling applications in biosensing and material characterization.

7. Fully Funded PhD in bioelectronic wound repair systems
Summary of Funded PhD Program
Our skin has remarkable ability to self-heal, however, old age and certain diseases can drastically reduce this ability. This greatly increases the risk that a normal wound becomes a chronic wound. Lots of research has been invested into wound repair strategies that support or speed up the healing process to reduce the risk that chronic wounds form. One way to enforce faster closure is to use electrical stimulation to manipulate how skin-cells act during skin regeneration. This concept has been developed over a number of years the by the team in bioelectronic microtechnology. At this point we are exploring how this completely new active wound healing concept could be integrated in established wound dressing materials based on cellulose.

12. Fully Funded PhD in synchrotron-based gas catalysis studies of model surfaces
Summary of Funded PhD Program
Against the background of global warming the chemical transformation of the greenhouse gases into value-added products with the aim to store energy in form of molecules becomes all the more essential. The partial oxidation of methane (POM) constitutes an energy-saving route to activate the greenhouse gas methane to produce syngas, a fundamental building block in chemical industry for the production of methanol and olefins. However, for POM to occur at energy-saving low temperatures, novel catalyst materials of improved activity need to be identified and investigated.

13. Fully Funded PhD in Aesthetic Experiences and Ethics of Interactions
Summary of Funded PhD Program
The aim of this PhD project is to develop interaction design knowledge concerning aesthetic experiences and ethics of interactions with AI based systems. This is to be achieved through a constructive design research approach, (1) conducting empirical studies, (2) prototyping and testing and (3) communicating relevant knowledge to stakeholders. Technologies influence our actions and experiences without being good or bad. This project aims to look at AI as “things with attitude” and design processes that can change opinions and attitudes. By integrating thoughtful interaction design with aesthetics of experience, and aesthetic interaction, we treat the quality of AI interactions as both an aesthetic and ethical matter. Thus, we explore bridging the gap between ethics and aesthetics in designing digital interactions.
