1. Fully Funded PhD in Sensorics for Soft Haptics
Summary of Funded PhD Program
The project is about the mechatronics, and mechanical and electronic design for the wearable and body-near interactive haptics, where orthogonal sensors and actuators enable design for tight perception-action loops. The focus will be on the embedded electronics and sensorics for patches manufactured in collaboration with other researchers in the research group of soft micromechanics, using planar additive manufacturing of printed circuits with digital printing of composites and different dielectrics. In collaboration with colleagues in the project, patches will be developed for exploring different haptic interactions for the internet of senses.

4. Fully Funded PhD
Summary of Funded PhD Program
The focus of our work is to understand cell fate decisions in human disease. We are developing state-of-art single-cell technologies to characterize cell heterogeneity in a systematic manner and to identify key players involved in controlling specific cell fates. In our group, we are fascinated by why cells in our body contain the exact same DNA sequence but turn into different fates. For instance, what is it that makes some cells in human bodies become cancer and not others? And how can stem cells differentiate into totally different cell types?
Application Deadline: 3 January 2025
5. Fully Funded PhD in Animal Ecology
Summary of Funded PhD Program
The PhD candidate will work on the project ‘Genomics of adaptation to the environment in a Californian butterfly’, under the supervision of Gabriela Montejo-Kovacevich at the Department of Ecology and Genetics. As climate and land-use changes force organisms to “move, adapt, or die,” understanding the genetic basis of ecologically relevant traits is essential for predicting species’ range expansions and adaptive potential in new environments. This project will focus on the genetic basis of adaptations to the environment in the North American Edith’s checkerspot butterfly (Euphydryas editha) and study their impact on the potential for range expansions or local adaptation in a warmer planet.

7. Fully Funded PhD in functional materials for REEs separation
Summary of Funded PhD Program
The project focuses on developing new methods for extracting and separating critical elements. This includes developing nanostructured materials by combining abundant macromolecule lignin with inorganic oxides. The research aims to synthesize these innovative materials and strategically enhance their performance by introducing functional groups and ligands. These modifications will improve the materials” ability to extract critical raw materials, such as REEs, and selectively separate those from inorganic impurities commonly found in mining tailings.
