3. Fully Funded PhD in Design and synthesis of charge-transport materials for indoor photovoltaics (IPVs)

Summary of Funded PhD Program

The main tasks will comprise the synthesis of organic small molecules; their film processing with industrially acceptable solvents; spectroscopic characterization of solution and films. The scientific objectives include:

1) Sustainable and scalable synthesis and processability of organic and/or inorganic hole- and electron-transport materials (HTL, ETL) for lead-free Bi- and Sn-perovskites;

2) Synthesis and green processing of inorganic ETL (metal oxides) for organic IPV;

3) Study of the interfaces between charge-transport materials and other IPV device components to maximize the charge extraction and collection in IPVs.

4. Fully Funded PhD in Quantum Matter and Information

Summary of Funded PhD Program

Over the past two decades, topological states of matter have taken a prominent role within both condensed-matter physics and quantum information theory. The macroscopic quantum-mechanical properties protected by the bulk topology in these systems produce effects that are not only exotic but also, at least in theory, robust to most local perturbations. With promising prospects within diverse areas ranging from energy storage to the engineering of robust qubits, the potential applications within future technology seem almost limitless and continue to spur further interest in the field. The goal of the research is to advance our theoretical understanding of the wide range of phenomena arising at this intersection between condensed matter and quantum information.

6. Fully Funded PhD in Continual Learning for Audio

Summary of Funded PhD Program

The research topic for the position to be filled is Continual Learning for Audio, with a focus on classification and detection of everyday sounds and acoustic scenes. Continual learning aims to allow machine learning models to continuously learn new tasks or data sequentially, accumulating knowledge without forgetting the previously learned information. This can be applied to various audio classification tasks, for example sound event or acoustic scene classification, sound event detection, sound event detection and localization.

7. Fully Funded PhD in Molecular Cell Biology

Summary of Funded PhD Program

The research project is aiming to understand the cellular mechanisms controlling receptor localization in mammalian cells. Cellular receptors are central for all main functions of cells and dysfunction in cellular receptor behavior and localization is associated with various diseases, such as immunodeficiency, cancer and epilepsy. Specifically, the project aims to understand pathophysiology of the retinal pigment epithelium phagocytosis. We target cellular receptors involved in phagocytosis and study how controlled oligomerization of the receptors contribute for the phagocytosis kinetics and thereby cellular fate.
