Do you have a Master’s degree and are looking for fully funded PhD opportunities? Bayreuth University, Germany is now accepting applications for several funded PhD programs across a range of research areas.
1. Fully Funded PhD in Mass Spectrometry Imaging in Food Sciences
Summary of Funded PhD Program
The project “MULTIANGEL” (co-funded by DFG and ANR) is a collaboration with the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) and Sorbonne University, Paris. The goal of this project is a) to further develop the integration of the complementary MALDI-Orbitrap and TOF-SIMS capabilities and b) to extend this combination to new application area, namely cultural heritage studies. This will be exemplified by the characterization of cognac barrels with an age of up to 150 years.

2. Fully Funded PhD in fundamental turbulence
Summary of Funded PhD Program
Turbulence is ubiquitous in nature and technology. Yet, developing theories of turbulence, which ultimately all modeling applications rely on, remains an outstanding scientific challenge. The goal of the EU-funded project UniTED is to combine theory and new computational approaches to tackle this long-standing problem and enhance our fundamental understanding of highly turbulent flows.
Application Deadline: Open until filled
3. Fully Funded PhD in battery technology
Summary of Funded PhD Program
The Electrical Energy Systems (EES) research group and the Bavarian Centre for Battery Technology (BayBatt) are conducting research into the next generation of lithium-ion and post-lithium batteries. The engineering sciences are making a significant contribution to this through research into testing and characterisation methods, modelling, battery management and operating strategies.
Application Deadline: 12 January 2025

4. Fully Funded PhD in Multiscale Simulation of Electrochemical Flow Reactors with Machine Learning
Summary of Funded PhD Program
Electrochemical flow reactors are a key enabling technology for the electrification of the chemical industry and the storage of renewable energy. Tailored design and operation require sophisticated models that consider processes across scales. Our goal is the development of advanced multiscale modeling techniques for the simulation of electrochemical flow reactors by expoiting novel machine learning techniques. The project is part of the priority program Machine Learning in Chemical Engineering (SPP 2331) funded by the German research association DFG.
Application Deadline: 31 December 2024
5. Fully Funded PhD in forest regeneration
Summary of Funded PhD Program
Increased mortality of mature trees is the most evident sign of the drastic change in Germany’s forest ecosystems. However, the character of the forests of the future will not only be determined by mortality processes, but also by the regenerating species that replace the dead individuals. This BMEL/FNR/ project aims to develop a protocol for monitoring changes in seed production, seedling growth and ingrowth in forest stands and thereby quantify the effects of climatic factors and herbivory on these rates.
