Transportation Maintenance Technician

The Transportation Maintenance Technician is responsible for the production and deployment of signs, barricades and other devices used for traffic and pedestrian notification and control. Performs basic parking structure repairs. Assists in the support of special events.
Transportation Services will provide uniforms as well as all tools and safety equipment. This will be an hourly paid position beginning at $17.35/hr.

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
- High school graduation or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Two years of experience in painting and other construction trades, traffic control or barricade/sign production and deployment.
Required Licenses and Certifications:
- Valid Driver’s License (Class C) or the ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Work experience emphasizing sign production, deployment and maintenance.
- Experience in painting parking structures or striping parking lots.
- Experience moving or backing up trailers.
- Certification or license in one or more of the mechanical/electrical trades.
- Extensive knowledge of the TAMU (College Station) campus and familiarity with traffic control.
Responsibilities:
- Special Events – Assist with periodic, labor-intensive special event functions such as football game support as needed. This may include placing and recovering signs, traffic devices or other equipment used to control vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Requires driving to various campus locations to set up signage and barricades. Check email and events calendar daily for special events updates.
- Signage- Assist with assembling vinyl signage and installing parking lot, garage, informational and way finding signage. Set up and operate drill press, grinder, metal hydraulic shearing equipment and other metalworking tools to repair or fabricate signs.
- Parking Maintenance- Responsible for general maintenance and repair of parking-related equipment. Periodically assists with painting/striping parking lots and parking structures as assigned. This may include pressure washing, grinding, laying out stripes or markings, painting, applying thermo-lay traffic markings, cleaning of painting tools, painting structures, repairing woodwork, and minor welding. Be observant of areas and items that require attention/repair such as signage, barricades, painting, as well as other opportunities across campus.
- Security and Safety- Promote security of vehicles, facilities, and safety to assure that the unit follows policies and procedures.
Other Requirements or Other Factors
- Ability to work in all weather conditions.
- Required to work overtime, weekends, occasional holidays, all home football games, and occasionally when campus is closed due to weather/emergencies.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift and/or move moderate to heavy weight objects.
- May be required to stand/traverse for extended periods of time (hours may increase depending on Special Events).
- Performs such tactile activities such as key punch, keyboarding, grasping, holding, wrist flexion/extension, and repetitive tasks.
- Frequent lifting, carrying, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, lifting, reaching (including overhead), pushing, pulling, twisting, walking, and sitting.
- Must be able to climb stairs and ladders.
- Must be able to work in both hot and cold environments.
