The Department of Oceanography is seeking a part-time Research Technician I to join our team and support work in marine science. In this entry-level role, you’ll provide essential technical support to our research projects, performing routine yet vital tasks that keep our lab operations running smoothly. Opportunities to Contribute
- Assembles, sets up, and operates technical and laboratory equipment; maintains and updates lab computers.
- Maintains lab inventory and orders necessary parts and supplies.
- Ensures laboratory compliance with OSHA safety standards.
- Provides logistical and technical support, including computer-related tasks.
- Performs general lab and prep room cleanup and maintenance.
- Assists senior staff with field experiments and procedure development.
- Supports research participant management, including recruitment, screening, and record-keeping.
- Aids undergraduate and graduate students with research projects.
- Participates in training and professional development as needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Two years of related experience
A well-qualified candidate will also possess
- Familiar with Python, MATLAB, or other similar programming tools for analyzing large climate datasets.
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Hourly Rate: $17 per hour
Schedule: This part time position may require you to travel and work on the weekend and/or after normal hours.
