Job Description:
The Office of New Student Programs at Iowa State University is seeking a dedicated and organized Program Specialist II to serve as a Transition Specialist to oversee the Cyclone 101 online transition program and support New Student Programs. This individual will play a crucial role in implementing a university transition course and collaborating with campus stakeholders to support the success and retention of new students. The ideal candidate will be an adaptable problem solver, capable of handling multiple competing priorities while maintaining a calm and positive demeanor. This role requires expertise in online learning strategies, program management, communication, and student engagement to help drive the strategic priorities of the department.
What you’ll do:
- Oversee Cyclone 101 online transition program: Implement the Cyclone 101 online transition course using Canvas, chair the Cyclone 101 Advisory Board, maintain and update program content, and develop communication plans.
- New Student Programs engagement activities: Serve in the professional rotation for orientation and Destination Iowa State (DIS) events, assist with major publication content review, coordinate attendance and completion reports, and develop NSP annual reports.
- Support transition programming: Serve as NSP liaison with campus stakeholders, promote orientation action step completion, coordinate onboarding communications, and develop transition support for new students.
- Other duties as assigned: Support undergraduate recruitment efforts and other projects as needed.

This is a term position with the end date three years from the start date, with the potential opportunity for renewal.
Example of Duties
• Manages a program to ensure that implementation and prescribed activities are carried out in accordance with the objectives of the university.
• Plans, monitors, and manages an internal or external project from initiation through completion.
• Leads or coordinates project planning, resourcing, and staffing for assigned program.
• Monitors and manages budget and ensures that the program meets the overall objectives of the university.
• Develops public relations initiatives, workshops, seminars, surveys, or other activities to promote the program and carry out its objectives.
• Acts as a representative of the program.
• Participates in project management.
• May secure external funding as needed.
Level Guidelines
• Intermediate-level position with solid professional and/or technical skills working under general supervision to achieve goals
• Applies broad, working knowledge of the principles of the field to moderately complex, difficult, and varied problems and issues
