The UB Division of Behavioral Medicine (Department of Medicine), seeks a full-time Research Support Specialist. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on an NIH study investigating non-drug treatment for chronic pain.
The successful candidate will be provided with training in clinical assessment and behavioral treatment methodology and will gain experience in general research administration and the preparation of grants and manuscripts. Additional independent research opportunities will be available based on interest and suitability. This position is well-suited for individuals interested in pursuing graduate study in clinical psychology or related programs.
Brief description of duties:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Maintaining participant questionnaire databases
- Contacting and scheduling patients
- Coordinating mailings and data collection
- Assisting with research compliance reports and procedures; data management, and preparation of data collected via online survey platforms.
- Interfacing with research and clinical staff to maintain effective communication regarding participant scheduling, and other study activities.
- Scheduling and telephone screening potential participants, assessing if they meet entry criteria, ensuring any disclosed safety concerns are addressed by study clinicians, recording data in data collection platform.
- Expanding recruitment efforts through a variety of social media platforms.
- Conduct literature reviews, support manuscript preparation, oral presentations, poster presentations, and grant writing.
- Support the development of real-time symptom monitoring projects (EMA) for adolescents and young adults across multiple pain and medical conditions.
- Conduct qualitative research (interviews, focus groups, coding)
- Apply statistical analyses in support of grant applications (NIH, foundation etc), and manuscripts.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in psychology preferred with 1 or more years experience in a research lab as an intern or undergrad student.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Research and/or professional experience with NIH trials.
- The successful candidate will have excellent organizational skills, computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Familiarity with Redcap, strong attention to detail, ability to function autonomously in a collaborative multidisciplinary team involving medical, research and behavioral medicine care, willingness to learn, develop additional computer skills related to data management and preparation of data for analysis.
- Ability to work harmoniously with diverse groups of individuals, is critical.
Physical Demands:
Salary Range: $32000
Additional Salary Information: The salary range reflects our good faith and reasonable estimate of the possible compensation at the time of posting, the role and associated responsibilities, and the experience, education, and training of the selected candidate.
