About the Cardiac Surgery Outcomes Group:
The Cardiac Surgery Outcomes Group is dedicated to facilitating high-quality research in cardiac surgery outcomes. Led by Division Chief Dr. Marc Pelletier and managed by the postdoctoral associate, the group includes faculty members, residents, fellows, and students engaged in outcomes research. The group fosters collaboration among members and provides shared resources and mentorship, with the goal of advancing projects toward publication and presentation at national conferences.
The Division of Cardiac Surgery at Yale is a high-volume, academically productive division, with outstanding surgical outcomes and excellent training.
Position Summary:
The Cardiac Surgery Outcomes Group is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate to lead research efforts in cardiac surgery outcomes. The postdoctoral associate will play a central role in guiding the group’s activities, leading clinical research projects, mentoring students, and helping to develop and maintain research databases. This position offers a unique leadership opportunity within a collaborative and productive research environment, with strong support for publishing manuscripts, presenting at national conferences, and gaining experience in academic research operations. We are seeking an independent, research-oriented individual with strong writing skills who is excited to advance the field of cardiac surgery outcomes research.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and organize the weekly Cardiac Surgery Outcomes Group meetings, including tracking active projects and conference deadlines.
- Design, conduct, and coordinate cardiac surgery outcomes research studies in collaboration with faculty members, residents, fellows, and students.
- Mentor students in research methodology, study design, data analysis, and manuscript preparation.
- Build, manage, and curate institutional and project-specific research databases to support ongoing and future studies.
- Draft Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols and amendments and assist group members in obtaining IRB coverage for research projects.
- Prepare abstracts and manuscripts for submission to national conferences and peer-reviewed journals.
Qualifications:
MD, PhD, or equivalent doctoral degree
Preference will be given to candidates with the following skills:
- Demonstrated experience in designing, conducting, and publishing clinical outcomes research.
- Strong foundation in statistical analysis and interpretation.
- Experience working with large clinical or administrative databases.
- Background in cardiovascular research or related clinical specialties.
- Proficiency in R or Python for data analysis.

The anticipated start date is July 1, 2025, with some flexibility based on candidate availability.
