Postdoctoral Associate – The Hattie Chung Lab

Postdoc @Yale University posted 6 days ago

Job Description

The Hattie Chung Lab is a newly established research group within the Cardiovascular Research Center at Yale School of Medicine. We develop and apply innovative experimental and computational approaches to study cellular heterogeneity and its impact on tissue function in health and disease. Our interdisciplinary work spans ovarian aging, cardiovascular disease, and therapeutic interventions, with a focus on deciphering cellular dynamics and molecular mechanisms driving tissue remodeling, ultimately to identify novel therapeutics.

Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly motivated and creative Postdoctoral Associate to join our team. The selected candidate will lead projects leveraging single-cell and spatial genomics to explore tissue homeostasis in the ovary and cardiovascular systems. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the early stages of a dynamic and growing lab, with substantial support for scientific and professional development.

Potential research areas include:

  • Investigating the role of the immune system in ovarian remodeling, with emphasis on aging and metabolic dysfunction
  • Developing new single-cell or spatially resolved genomics methods
  • Testing therapeutic interventions in models of ovarian and cardiovascular aging
  • Designing in vivo lineage-tracing and labeling strategies paired with high-throughput genomics
  • Developing ex vivo and in vitro validation models for functional studies

Additionally, the postdoctoral associate will play a pivotal role in shaping the new Chung Lab, contributing to both its research direction and mentorship efforts, including the guidance of graduate and undergraduate students.

Mentoring & Development Opportunities

The Chung Lab is committed to fostering a supportive and collaborative training environment. The lab is located at Yale School of Medicine in New Haven, CT, providing an exceptional environment for interdisciplinary research, collaboration, and mentorship. The selected candidate will have access to:

  • Close mentorship from Dr. Hattie Chung, including regular one-on-one meetings and support for grant writing, presentations, and publishing
  • Opportunities to present at national/international conferences
  •  Access to a broad network of collaborators at Yale and beyond

Qualifications

We welcome applicants with backgrounds in either experimental biology, computational biology, or both.

Required:

  • Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Bioengineering, Systems Biology, or related discipline
  • Strong record of research productivity, including at least one first-author publication (published or under review)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

Preferred experience includes:

  • Single-cell and/or spatial genomics technologies
  • Next-generation sequencing (NGS) techniques
  • Computational analysis of genomic data
  •  Working with mouse models of disease
  • Flow cytometry and related cell isolation techniques

Application Instructions

To apply, please email Dr. Hattie Chung at hattie.chung@yale.edu with the subject line: “Postdoctoral Candidate – [Your Name]”.

Include the following materials:

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Cover letter detailing key research accomplishments, scientific interests, career goals, and preferred start date
  • Contact information for three references

Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
