Job Description
The Humanitas New Voices Fellowship is an annual, six-month paid residency hosted by the Humanitas Prize in partnership with industry mentors. Designed to support emerging screenwriters from diverse backgrounds, the fellowship awards five writers the opportunity to develop original television scripts with guidance from established professional writers and producers. Fellows receive a $15,000 cash grant, networking access, and career development support.
Role Description:
Fellows will engage in the following activities:
- Script Development: Work one-on-one with an industry mentor to refine a pilot script or series bible, incorporating feedback through multiple drafts.
- Workshops & Seminars: Attend masterclasses on story structure, character development, and the business of Hollywood led by Humanitas board members and guest speakers.
- Industry Networking: Participate in facilitated meetings with studio executives, agents, and showrunners to pitch projects and build professional relationships.
- Public Showcase: Present final script excerpts at a “New Voices” table read event attended by producers, writers, and talent scouts.
Location:
Hybrid model: Virtual mentoring sessions supplemented by two in-person residency weekends in Los Angeles, CA.

What You’ll Need:
- Submission of one original TV pilot script (30–60 pages) or a series bible with two sample scripts.
- Demonstrated commitment to impactful storytelling and human-centered narratives.
- Open to writers from underrepresented backgrounds (race, gender, sexuality, disability, socioeconomic status).
- U.S. work authorization; international writers may apply if sponsored.
