Job Description
The Drama League Stage Directing Fellowships are a two-year, full-time professional development program administered by the Drama League in New York City. Each year, up to four early-career directors are selected to receive individualized mentorship, financial support, and immersive training in all aspects of American stage directing practice.
Role Description:
Fellows will engage in the following activities:
- Mentorship & Coaching: Pair with a seasoned theater director for one-on-one monthly sessions focusing on script analysis, rehearsal technique, and career strategy.
- Assistant Directing Assignments: Serve as assistant director on at least two professional productions—off-Broadway, regional, or touring—with partner theaters to gain hands-on production experience.
- Career Development Workshops: Participate in quarterly workshops on fundraising, artistic leadership, collaborative process, and audience engagement led by industry leaders.
- Director’s Seminar: Attend the annual week-long Drama League Director’s Seminar in New York, networking with peers, dramaturgs, and producers from across the country.

What You’ll Need:
- 1–3 years of professional directing experience in theater (regional, educational, or independent).
- Demonstrated commitment to developing a directorial voice and collaborative leadership style.
- Ability to balance fellowship activities with directing assignments and travel to partner theaters.
- U.S. work authorization or ability to secure necessary visas for placements.
