Job Description: A 12-month, non-partisan fellowship for recent graduates and young professionals aimed at grooming the next generation of Black/African American leaders in public policy. Hosted by the CBCF, it provides intensive on-the-job training in Congress and policy analysis.
Role Description: Fellows spend 6 months in the office of a member of Congress (often a CBC member) serving as a legislative aide, followed by 6 months with a Congressional committee, subcommittee, or at the CBCF itself. Typical duties include drafting memos, researching legislation, writing speeches or op-eds, and constituent outreach. This full-time role gives hands-on experience in the legislative process.

What You’ll Need: U.S. citizenship or a permit to work in the U.S. for the duration of the program; A master’s degree, doctoral degree, or juris doctorate obtained by the start date of the program; Familiarity with the federal legislative process, the U.S. Congress, the Congressional Black Caucus and its members, and related policy;Superior analytical skills;Outstanding oral and written communication skills;Demonstrated commitment to social justice either through public policy, professional experience, or community-related activism aimed at improving the living conditions of the global Black community. The program actively seeks diversity but focuses on those committed to legislative/public policy work.
Preferred Qualifications: Internship or work experience in politics, government, or community service; strong writing and communication skills; interest in social justice and policy.
Benefits and Perks: Fellows receive a salary ($60-$70,000) plus benefits (paid by CBCF). They also gain networking opportunities (meeting senior policymakers and community leaders) and mentoring. The program explicitly aims to prepare alumni for leadership roles in government, business, and non-profits.
