The Inter-American Foundation (IAF) Research Fellowship Program, administered in collaboration with the Social Science Research Council (SSRC), supports doctoral students conducting dissertation research on community-led development in Latin America and the Caribbean. The fellowship advances understanding of grassroots development and encourages high-quality fieldwork that contributes to both scholarly knowledge and practical outcomes in the region.
Role Description:
Fellows engage in nine to twelve months of dissertation research in Latin America or the Caribbean, working directly with local communities or organizations involved in participatory development. Their work is expected to enhance knowledge of development strategies that are inclusive, effective, and rooted in local contexts. In addition to conducting fieldwork, fellows participate in a mid-year workshop to share research insights and foster interdisciplinary exchange with peers and experts.

What You’ll Need:

Enrollment in a PhD program at a U.S. university

Approved dissertation proposal or prospectus at time of application
