Job Description


The ROCC Fellowship is a six-month, cohort-based program designed to invest in the leadership of organizers in the U.S. South. It provides an opportunity for social justice leaders to hone their leadership skills, immerse themselves in theory and practice, and expand their community in movement work.

Role Description:
Fellows participate in a combination of academic coursework, immersive retreats, and individual coaching and mentorship. The program includes:

  • Academic coursework: Fellows take the course “Power and Strategy,” taught by faculty at the School of Labor and Urban Studies (SLU) at CUNY, focusing on strategy fundamentals based on the book Practical Radicals by Deepak Bhargava and Stephanie Luce.

  • Immersive retreats: Two week-long residential retreats for in-person learning, relationship building, and leadership training, including personal sustainability practices.

  • Executive coaching and mentorship: Each fellow receives a 360° Leadership assessment and is paired with a dedicated coach and mentor for regular one-on-one meetings throughout the fellowship.

  • Application Cycle: Annually

  • What You’ll Need:

    • Based in North Carolina and working in labor, base-building, or community organizing.

    • At least 5-7 years of experience in social justice work.

    • Deep understanding of the socio-political and economic context in North Carolina.

    • Commitment to working towards long-term progressive change in the state.

    • Demonstrated track record of leading others, working on campaigns, and building coalitions.

    • Active engagement in developing strategy within organizations and coalition spaces.

  • Preferred or Required Qualifications:

    • Applicants from historically marginalized backgrounds such as Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC), women and nonbinary people, LGBTQ+ individuals, people with disabilities, and those from low-income, working-class, and immigrant backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.
