Job Description
This Postdoctoral Fellow position will be part of the Coastal Carbon Cycle Laboratory of the Marine Science Institute at the University of Texas at Austin located in Port Aransas, Texas. The initial appointment is set for one year, renewal is subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.
Responsibilities
- Join field and lab-based experiment, perform data collection and interpretation.
- Present research results at national/international meetings.
- Write manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed international journals.
- Collaborate with other members of the lab group, and mentor undergraduate/early career graduate students in the lab.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Doctoral degree in marine chemistry, chemical oceanography, or a related field, earned within the last 3 years.
- Experience in seawater carbonate chemistry studies, including both shipboard experience and experience working with in situ ocean acidification sensors.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience communicating scientific findings to a broad audience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in sediment geochemical analysis, familiar with sediment sulfur/sulfide analysis and data interpretation.
- Experience with numerical and statistical modeling of natural systems.
- Working knowledge in programming languages such as MatLab and/or R.
- Experience with project management and ability to meet project goals in a timely manner.
· Salary Range
$59,000 annually
Working Conditions.
- Daily work involves corrosive chemicals and heavy metals
- Occasional extended work hours
- Fieldwork can be under adverse weather conditions.
