The UHealth system at the University of Miami  has an exciting opportunity for a full time Postdoc Associate in the UHealth Radiation Oncology Department.
SUMMARY
The Postdoc Associate performs scientific research and studies under the supervision of managing staff. Moreover, the Post Doctoral Associate promotes institutional recognition through literal contributions to the scientific community.
CORE FUNCTIONS
- Conducts research on specific areas of study as assigned.
- Prepares research reports and technical papers for publishing.
- Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories.
- Maintains substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories.
- Develops advanced analytical models and systems and provides solutions and analyses to support
- strategic and tactical decisions.
- Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge and understanding of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of cancer biology.
- Ability to perform basic cell and molecular biology techniques (cell culture of immortalized, cancer and normal cells; preparation of normal cells from animal tissues; DNA and RNA extraction; PCR, RT-PCR; clonogenic assay and other survival in vitro assays; viability assay; western blotting; comet assay; gH2AX stainig, DNA fiber assay; monoclonal antibody production and analysis).
- Abilities to work with small animals.
- Abilities to inoculate tumor cells into mice in the form of intracranial injection
- Demonstrated ability to multitask preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills; must demonstrate the ability to effectively and professionally communicate and work with various individuals from a broad spectrum of disciplines, technical and educational backgrounds within the department, school and university, and with individuals outside the university.
- Strong organization skills; ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines. Must demonstrate attention to detail and accuracy, time management skills, and follow-through.
- Ability to work effectively independently and collaboratively within a team. (Must be highly motivated, responsible, dependable and a self-starter).
- Effective problem-solving skills; must demonstrate excellent analytical skills,sound judgment and good decision-making.
- Must demonstrate flexibility and ability to work under pressure; must be able and willing to work in a fast-paced, changing environment, and conform to shifting priorities, demands and timeline.
- Ability to operate laboratory equipment including PCR, RT-PCR, Western blotting apparatus, gel electrophoresis; elisa readers; luminometer; microscopes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (ex: Word, Excel, PowerPoint), knowledge of statistical software, array analysis software preferred.
- Must demonstrate willingness to learn new techniques, procedures, processes, and computer programs as needed.
- Must be able and willing to maintain a high standard of personal cleanliness and utilize protective gear to protect the health of the animals.
- Experience with Immunohistochemical staining preferred.
- Experience with sequencing data analysis preferred.
