Job Description


The Pillars Artist Fellowship is a highly selective, year-long program co-founded by the Pillars Fund, Riz Ahmed’s Left Handed Films, and the Ford Foundation. The fellowship supports emerging Muslim filmmakers—directors and screenwriters—in the United States and United Kingdom who are creating powerful narratives that expand and enrich the global understanding of Muslim communities. The program provides financial support, mentorship, and industry access to help elevate underrepresented voices in the film and television industries.

Role Description:
Fellows participate in monthly masterclasses, one-on-one mentorship, industry networking events, and peer-to-peer learning experiences. The fellowship focuses on developing the fellow’s craft, building professional networks, and navigating the entertainment industry. Fellows also receive support in pitching, story development, and career planning.

  • Application Cycle: Annually

What You’ll Need:

  • Emerging Muslim-identifying filmmaker residing in the U.S. or U.K.

  • At least one complete film or script (short or feature)

  • Demonstrated commitment to a career in storytelling through film or television

Preferred or Required Qualifications:

  • Experience in screenwriting or directing

  • A unique creative voice and dedication to representing Muslim characters and stories with authenticity and nuance

  • Strong artistic potential and readiness to benefit from industry support
