Teaching: Teaching is not a condition of the fellowship. However, students are strongly encouraged to serve as teaching assistants in departmental courses or in the College of Arts and Science’s College Core Curriculum, and to sole-teach summer courses. Compensation for these assignments is in addition to the MacCracken Fellowship.

Additional Funding: Beyond the five years of the MacCracken Fellowship, students may receive additional fellowships from MEIS, NYU, or external sources to support dissertation research and writing.
The department also offers summer language fellowships, including the Carola Berthelot Trust Fellowship and the R. Bayly Winder Summer Language Fellowship, to support language study integral to students’ academic programs.
