Graduate Fellowships @Fellowships posted 2 weeks ago

Job Description

Job Description: A dual-track federal fellowship (funded by SAMHSA/CSWE) that supports racial/ethnic minority students pursuing Master’s or Doctoral degrees in social work. Its mission is to increase the number of well-trained professionals in behavioral health who can serve underserved minority populations.

Role Description: Fellows receive stipend support and professional development training while enrolled full-time in an accredited U.S. social work program (Master’s for clinical social work with a behavioral health focus, or Ph.D. with a focus on mental health disparities). The program integrates field placement and leadership activities relevant to public mental health.

Location: Accredited U.S. social work schools (Master’s or Ph.D. programs). Fellows can choose their campus, provided it is a CSWE-accredited program offering relevant coursework/fieldwork.

Application Cycle: Annual.

What You’ll Need: U.S. citizenship or permanent residence; enrollment in or acceptance to a CSWE-accredited MSW or Ph.D. program focusing on behavioral health; identification as a racial/ethnic minority (specific criteria vary by year, often targeting those unrepresented in mental health fields). Undergraduate social work degrees may be required before graduate entry.

Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated commitment to serving minority communities and public health; strong academic record; leadership in community service.

Benefits and Perks: Annual stipend (varies by degree level, often $10–$25k) to defray tuition and living expenses; professional mentorship and networking; funded travel to MFP conferences; priority access to specialized continuing education. Participation in this federal initiative also connects fellows to national policy and research networks.

Where/How to Apply: Applications are submitted through CSWE’s online portal (see cswe.org/fellowships for MSW and Doctoral MFP programs). Detailed instructions are posted by the Council on Social Work Education each year.
