The Carla B. Howery Teaching Enhancement Fund Grants, administered by the American Sociological Association (ASA), provide small grants to support projects that advance the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) within sociology. Established to seed innovative teaching and learning initiatives, ASA awards multiple grants of up to $2,500 each to individuals, programs, departments, or state/regional associations for systemic educational impact ([turn0search0], [turn0search3]).
Role Description:
Grant recipients will:
- Project Implementation: Use funds for activities such as summer salary, equipment purchase, software licenses, travel for data collection or collaboration, meeting facilitation, interview transcription, or survey deployment.
- Advancement of SoTL: Design and execute a project that poses teaching/learning questions, applies appropriate sociological methods, implements findings in practice, and communicates results via peer review and reflection.
- Dissemination: Present interim findings at an invited session at the ASA Annual Meeting and submit mid‑year and final reports to ASA to document project outcomes and broader impacts.
What You’ll Need:
- A clear SoTL project proposal demonstrating advancement of sociology teaching and learning, seed potential, and systemic impact.
- Electronic cover sheet (fillable PDF) with applicant and project details.
- Grant proposal following ASA guidelines, outlining objectives, methods, budget, and timeline.
- Curriculum vitae for all investigators.
- IRB documentation, if human subjects research is involved.
- ASA membership active by award date (membership not required at application).
