Job Description

The Benjamin Lay Fellowship Program offers college students a ten-week, part-time leadership training and service‑learning internship grounded in Quaker history and values. Administered by IDEAS Generation’s Quaker Comet initiative and supported by the Shoemaker Fund, fellows receive a $2,000 stipend plus coverage of approved travel and project-related expenses.

Role Description:
Fellows will engage in:

  • Service‑Learning Projects: Partner with local Monthly Meetings of the Religious Society of Friends to co‑design and implement community-driven initiatives addressing peace, social justice, or environmental stewardship.
  • Leadership Curriculum: Participate in a Quaker‑centered leadership development series—covering integrity, equality, peace, and stewardship—through remote modules and cohort workshops.
  • Team Collaboration: Work approximately ten hours per week alongside other fellows and Quaker mentors, combining on‑site and remote activities to complete project milestones.

Location:
Hybrid format: up to 70% remote work paired with in-person engagement at Quaker meetings across the Greater Philadelphia area (or fellow’s local Quaker community), as coordinated with partner Monthly Meetings.

Application Cycle:
Annually on a rolling basis.

  • Enrollment as an undergraduate student in an accredited U.S. institution.
  • Demonstrated interest in Quaker values and social justice (e.g., volunteer, faith‑based involvement).
  • Ability to commit ten hours per week over a ten-week period (typically May–July).
  • Basic communication skills for virtual collaboration and community outreach.
