Job Description

The Research Innovation & Collaboration Exchange (RICE) Fellowships are two‑year, full‑time programs hosted by leading research institutions in collaboration with partner universities and industry sponsors. RICE Fellows conduct interdisciplinary research projects that span academia, government labs, and private sector partners, aiming to accelerate translational innovations and foster collaborative networks across sectors.

Role Description:
Fellows will engage in the following activities:

  • Interdisciplinary Research: Design and execute a novel research agenda that integrates at least two disciplines (e.g., bioengineering and data science, materials chemistry and environmental science) to address high‑impact scientific or societal challenges.
  • Collaborative Rotations: Complete three six‑month rotations across partnering entities—such as a university lab, a national research center, and an industry R&D group—to broaden technical expertise and professional networks.
  • Mentorship & Workshops: Participate in monthly seminars on topics like innovation commercialization, research ethics, and grant writing; receive one‑on‑one mentorship from senior scientists and project managers in each rotation.
  • Dissemination & Outreach: Publish findings in peer‑reviewed journals, present at international conferences, and engage in outreach activities (workshops, policy briefings) to promote technology transfer and public understanding.

Location:
Placements begin at the home institution for the first rotation, followed by assignments at partner sites (national laboratories, corporate R&D centers) in the United States or abroad, depending on the research focus.

  • Ph.D. (or equivalent) in a STEM field conferred within the last three years, or expected by fellowship start.
  • Demonstrated track record of interdisciplinary research (publications, patents, or prototypes).
  • Ability to commit full‑time to rotations and travel between partner sites.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and project management skills.
