Job Description
The Second Nature Fellows Program is a two‑year, full‑time leadership fellowship administered by Second Nature, a nonprofit accelerating climate action in higher education. Each cohort of 10–12 early‑ to mid‑career sustainability professionals partners with colleges and universities to advance campus climate and equity goals through strategy, policy, and community engagement projects.
Role Description:
Fellows will engage in the following activities:
- Campus Placement: Serve as embedded sustainability change agents at host institutions, collaborating with campus leadership to develop and implement climate action plans, curriculum integration, or equity initiatives.
- Project Leadership: Design and lead a major campus climate or resilience project—such as carbon reduction, renewable energy deployment, or inclusive sustainability programming—with measurable outcomes.
- Community Engagement: Facilitate stakeholder meetings, student workshops, and faculty convenings to foster broad support for sustainability goals and build cross‑sector partnerships.
- Peer Learning & Mentorship: Participate in monthly virtual seminars, annual in‑person summits, and one‑on‑one coaching with Second Nature staff and senior Fellows to share best practices and refine leadership skills.
Location:
Fellows are based on-site at partner higher education institutions across the United States (e.g., public universities, private colleges, community colleges), with travel to Second Nature’s Boston office for an annual kickoff summit.

What You’ll Need:
- Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in environmental studies, sustainability, public policy, or related field.
- 2–5 years of professional experience in campus sustainability, climate policy, or program management.
- Demonstrated project management skills and ability to lead cross‑functional teams.
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills for diverse campus audiences.
