<p>This individual will provide clinical veterinary care to animals; manage preventive medical programs; participate in IACUC activities; perform post-approval monitoring of protocols; provide training programs; provide consultation for research staff;; and participate in resident training in an ACLAM-approved training program.</p>
<p><u><b>RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES</b></u></p>
<p>· Provide clinical, diagnostic, and surgical services and care to animals</p>
<p>· Manage preventive medical programs including rodent health surveillance, quarantine, and diagnostic laboratory activities</p>
<p>· Participate in IACUC activities including investigator interactions, protocol review, and inspections</p>

<p><i><u>Position Summary</u></i><i>:</i></p>
<p>This position is primarily clinical, providing veterinary care and veterinary services in support of the organization’s research mission. In this role, the incumbent will, on a daily basis, diagnose, treat, and manage clinical cases identified in the research colonies; assist with disease surveillance and prevention programs; participate in various activities to ensure compliance with regulations and guidelines; and assist the Director with administration and management of the animal care and use program. In addition, the successful candidate will provide professional service primarily in the areas of anesthesia, surgery and oversee post-operative care of animals in support of specific research programs. There are also opportunities to participate in teaching of veterinary residents, graduate students and medical students, and collaborate on research and other scholarly activities. This position is a non-tenure line faculty appointment at the Assistant Professor level.</p>
<p><i><u>Responsibilities</u></i><i>:</i></p>
<ul>
<li>Provide daily veterinary care for the animal resource program with a census of approximately 15,000 animals in barrier, non-barrier, and large animal areas.</li>
<li>Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to provide after-hours and weekend veterinary coverage.</li>
<li>Develop and carry out a program of preventive medical care for species in his/her assigned area of clinical responsibility.</li>
<li>Oversee anesthesia, surgery, and pre- and post-procedural care of research animals.</li>
<li>Assist with post-approval monitoring.</li>
<li>Consult with principal investigators in study design, surgical planning, and other animal-related questions.</li>
<li>Review animal care and use protocols prior to submission for IACUC review.</li>
<li>Assist with IACUC activities, specifically semi-annual program reviews and semi-annual inspections of animal facilities and animal use areas.</li>
<li>Participate in training of animal care, veterinary support staff, veterinary residents, and research staff.</li>
</ul>
<p><i><u>Required Qualifications:</u></i></p>
<ul>
<li>DVM, VMD or equivalent from an AVMA-accredited or recognized school of veterinary medicine.</li>
<li>Licensed to practice veterinary medicine in at least one U.S. state.</li>
<li>Experience working with swine, calves, sheep, rabbits, and rodents in a research setting.</li>
<li>Minimum two (2) years’ experience in animal-based research.</li>
<li>Experience working with principal investigators, research staff, animal care staff and students.</li>
<li>Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative, service-oriented, rapidly changing environment to accomplish mutual goals.</li>
<li>Ability to work independently and effectively across organizational lines and in collaboration with colleagues throughout the organization.</li>
<li>Ability to supervise staff.</li>
<li>Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills; aptitude for detailed work.</li>

<li>Conduct community outreach and develop marketing and outreach materials.</li>
<li>Conduct and supervise community legal education.</li>
<li>Teach in the clinic seminar, alone or with the Director of the Clinic or other clinic attorneys.</li>
<li>Manage, in collaboration with the Clinic Director and other clinic attorneys, and supervise students in the administrative aspects of the management of a law office.</li>
<li>Manage grant reporting in coordination with the Clinic Director and administrative staff.</li>
<li>Handle clinic’s cases and projects during breaks in the academic calendar.</li>
<li>Participate in special project as assigned.</li>
<li>Perform other related duties as assigned.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Minimum Qualifications</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Juris Doctor from an ABA-approved law school or its equivalent from a foreign country.</li>
<li>Licensed to practice law in Illinois or ability to be admitted by motion</li>
<li>Experience in handling Vetrans benefits or discharge upgrade cases, and knowledge of the U.S. military</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Preferred Qualifications</strong></p>
<ul>
<li><span style="font-size: small;">Skills, disposition, desire or experience mentoring, supervising, and teaching law students.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: small;">Strong oral and written communication, organization skills, time management, and case management.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: small;">Motivation to learn and achieve superior practice and supervision skills.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: small;">Desire and ability to work creatively within the broader program goals.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: small;">Commitment to access to justice, racial justice, and client-centered lawyering.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: small;">Experience using trauma informed interviewing for at-risk or in-crisis clients.</span></li>
