<p><u><b>Job Accountabilities</b></u></p>
<p>· Coordinates facilities, equipment, animal care personnel and activities within one or more animal resource facilities in an assigned area. Ensures appropriate housing assignments for animals of different species. Plans and schedules daily animal care activities.</p>
<p>· Supervises daily operations to ensure animals are provided care in accordance with federal, state and local regulations and guidelines, including accreditation guidelines. Ensures compliance with University policies and procedures.</p>
<p>· Resolves quality control issues with facilities. Coordinates maintenance activities. Supervises a group of animal care personnel as assigned. Assists in recruitment, screening, hiring, orientation and training of unit staff. Ensures consistency of employee performance. Evaluates employee performance and provides guidance and feedback. Counsels and disciplines employees as required in consultation with the manager.</p>
<p>· Schedules, assigns and prioritizes workloads. Sets appropriate deadlines.</p>
<p>· Monitors employee performance on a daily basis. Ensures timely completion of unit’s work. Completes and submits time sheets and other documentation relating to employees.</p>
<p>· Monitors recordkeeping within facilities to ensure appropriate documentation as required by departmental and regulatory guidelines. Assists in developing standard operating procedures.</p>
<p>· Assists in the inventory of caging, equipment and consumable items such as animal feed and bedding supplies. Distributes equipment and supplies to facilities and informs the manager when supplies need to be replenished.</p>
<p>· Assists principal investigators and laboratory staff with procedures and equipment as necessary.</p>
<p>· Ensures that appropriate billing information is received by the Business Office.</p>
<p>· Ordering and coordinating animal purchase requests for all the researchers at USC ensuring timely delivery.</p>
<p><u><b>The Qualifications</b></u></p>
<p>· Minimum Education: High school of equivalent. Specialized technical training.</p>
<p>· Minimum Experience: 3 years</p>
<p>· Minimum Field of Expertise: American Association for Laboratory Animal Science Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) Certification or Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) Certification. Experience in veterinary hospital kennel or animal research laboratory.</p>
<p>· Preferred Education: Bachelor’s degree</p>
<p>· Preferred Field of Expertise: Degree in biological science</p>

<h2>Responsibilities</h2>
<ul>
<li>Overall responsibility for managing daily operations of EWRE Analytical Service Center and teaching laboratories.</li>
<li>Oversee EWRE Analytical Service Center instrument user training, scheduling and application of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for analysis of environmental samples by a range of instrumentation including LC/MS, IC/ICP/MS, GC/MS, GC, HPLC, TOC, and IC.</li>
<li>Manage equipment and instrument life cycles including purchase, delivery, installation, training, method development, maintenance, troubleshooting, decommissioning, and disposal. Work with equipment manufacturer technical support to troubleshoot and repair lab equipment. Identify and pursue opportunities for continuous improvement in the lab.</li>
<li>Manage EWRE teaching laboratory facilities by ensuring proper operation and functioning of equipment, appropriate cleaning and use of labs by faculty and teaching assistants, and assisting with ordering supplies for classes.  Maintain EWRE Service Center supplies and consumables.</li>
<li>Develop and maintain Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) Standards to support lab operations including standard operating procedures (SOPs), document control, training programs, equipment maintenance schedules and maintenance records. Ensure compliance in the lab with UT Environmental Health &amp; Safety (EHS) requirements for safety training, use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and hazardous waste disposal. Conduct safety orientation for new students as needed.</li>
<li>Work with finance team to develop and manage the budget, including instrument use rates, invoicing and expenses. Ensure efficient use of lab resources. Represent the lab in conferences, showcases, and other opportunities to market available services</li>
<li>Other duties as assigned.</li>

<h2>Required Qualifications</h2>

<li>Master&#8217;s degree and two years of relevant experience or Bachelor&#8217;s degree and four years of relevant experience in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., environmental engineering, chemistry)</li>
<li>Minimum of five years of experience working in analytical chemistry, preferably in an academic or research setting.</li>
<li>Experience with the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of complex analytical instrumentation commonly used in environmental engineering (e.g., chromatography, mass spectrometry, spectroscopy).</li>
<li>Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices for working in a laboratory setting, with a commitment to promoting a culture of safety and compliance.</li>
<li>Knowledge of quality systems and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) Standards.</li>

<p>This is a research staff position in the Sled Lab within the Center for Injury Biomechanics. The Sled Lab conducts research on the human tolerance to impact and injury with a focus on automotive safety and military applications.<br />
Position responsibilities include preparation, completion, and tear-down of experiments as well as participation in daily laboratory maintenance. Detailed responsibilities comprise preparation of human tissues for impact biomechanics and material testing. This includes whole body testing focusing on skeletal components as well as preparation of skeletal and soft-tissue components for structural and material testing. This also includes assisting with autopsy procedures. Additionally, staff will assist with the planning and execution impact/injury biomechanics testing involving postmortem human surrogate (PMHS), ATDs, and human volunteers. Specifically, this involves the set up and performance of tests using a crash sled, impactors and pendulums, restraint systems, highspeed biplane xray, tissue testers, drop towers, material testing machines, blast bucks, transducers, data acquisition equipment, highspeed video cameras, and motion capture equipment. This includes assisting with posttest and between test activities such as transducer maintenance and procurement, design and fabrication of testing fixtures and parts. Other daily responsibilities include management of machine and electronics shop areas, management of specimen preparation and storage laboratories, tracking inventory, ordering supplies, and maintaining general laboratory spaces. Staff will work collaboratively with a team of researchers, taking direction from and reporting findings to the principal investigator and working side by side with graduate and undergraduate students.<br />

<p>The Lab Manager for the Microscopy &amp; Histology Core Facility will perform the various tasks required for receiving, processing, and preparing research specimens for microscopic / histology examination, analysis, and scientific use by the client/end-user. This may include logging, batching, cutting, mounting, and staining procedures. Specimens received from research, surgical, diagnostic, and/or autopsy cases are sorted, logged, and prioritized according to the standards required. Reporting to and following the instructions of the Director of the core facility, the manager will coordinate the daily workflow of tasks and activities in the laboratory area concerning routine and special procedures.  This will include microscopy work and training. The Lab Manager will supervise the activities within the Microscopy and Histology core facility. This will include coordination and performance of all the various tasks required for the completion of all procedures.</p>
<p><b><u>PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES</u></b></p>
<p><b>Technical Support</b></p>
<ul>
<li>Proficiency with microscopy techniques, including light microscopy (essential), confocal microscopy, and electron microscopy (desirable).</li>
<li>Provide training to users on proper equipment use, imaging techniques, and data acquisition protocols.</li>
<li>Knowledge of spatial biology applications such as RNAscope and GeoMX (highly desirable)</li>
<li>Assist with histological sample preparation, including tissue processing, embedding, sectioning (paraffin and cryosectioning), and staining techniques (e.g., H&amp;E, special stains, immunohistochemistry).</li>
<li>Troubleshoot issues with instrumentation and assist with minor repairs or liaise with service engineers for maintenance.</li>
<li>Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of biological samples and hazardous materials in compliance with safety standards.</li>
<li>Support data transfer, cloud storage, and analytical software.</li>
</ul>
<p><b>Operational Management</b></p>
<ul>
<li>Manage day-to-day operations of the core facility, including scheduling, coordination of services, and tracking usage.</li>
<li>Maintain an organized inventory of consumables, reagents, and supplies, placing orders as needed.</li>
<li>Develop and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) for equipment and lab processes.</li>
<li>Perform routine calibration and quality control checks on equipment to ensure accurate results.</li>
