1. 02 Fully Funded PhD in accelerated aging of Lithium-Ion Batteries
Summary of Funded PhD Program
In this position, the candidates will work to develop new methods for accelerating the study of aging in commercial Li-ion battery cells and determining implications for cell calendar and cycle lifetimes. This includes further study of known degradation mechanisms of battery cells and the elucidation of new degradation mechanisms, working towards the development of long-lifetime Li-ion battery technology. In addition to cell testing and analysis, post-mortem material and electrochemical testing of battery components will be carried out to further analyze degradation mechanisms.

Society is witnessing an increased use of generative artificial intelligence (AI). This technology creates content based on data, algorithms and user input. While much of its current use is experimental, several sectors, including public administration, finance and education, have enthusiastically adopted generative AI for core activities. However, the use of generative AI raises questions about the benefits it provides and creates concerns about the consequences in various contexts. The PhD fellow studying generative AI will conduct research in areas including, but not limited to: trust and reliability, accountability, transparency, bias, skills attrition, privacy, underlying ethics and values, and public policy and governance. At the University of Agder, Faculty of Humanities and Pedagogy, there are up to 11 temporary 100% positions available as doctoral fellows for a period of three years. The positions are linked to the faculty’s four departments. The faculty’s PhD program has four specializations: specialization in literature, specialization in linguistics, specialization in pedagogy and specialization in religion, philosophy and history.
The doctoral education is a supervised research education. The PhD candidates receive formal training and guidance that gives them a broad professional insight, both theoretical and methodological, and a further deepening so that they are able to carry out independent research. It is expected that the scholarship holders stay at the university for a significant part of the effective working time.
