Do you have a Master’s degree and are looking for fully funded PhD opportunities? University of Bayreuth, Germany is now accepting applications for several funded PhD programs across a range of research areas.
1. Fully Funded PhD in polymer materials
Summary of Funded PhD Program
The aim of the project is to demonstrate how complex problems in composite material development can be solved in a time and cost-efficient manner using machine learning when components made from sustainable raw materials are used. The focus of the research work is the development of an optimized, multi-component mixture of petroleum-based and bio-based resins and hardeners.

2. Fully Funded PhD in polymer engineering
Summary of Funded PhD Program
Due to their intrinsic remeltability, thermoplastics offer the potential for a closed material cycle after the use phase. However, one of the biggest problems is still that plastics from closed-loop systems have a diverse and fluctuating chemical composition even after sorting. Using a novel combination of inline analysis and Raman spectroscopy, the research project aims to detect such impurities and derive measures to compensate for them.

3. Fully Funded PhD in Mass Spectrometry Imaging in Food Sciences
Summary of Funded PhD Program
The project “MULTIANGEL” (co-funded by DFG and ANR) is a collaboration with the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) and Sorbonne University, Paris. The goal of this project is a) to further develop the integration of the complementary MALDI-Orbitrap and TOF-SIMS capabilities and b) to extend this combination to new application area, namely cultural heritage studies. This will be exemplified by the characterization of cognac barrels with an age of up to 150 years.

4. Fully Funded PhD in fundamental turbulence research
Summary of Funded PhD Program
Turbulence is ubiquitous in nature and technology. Yet, developing theories of turbulence, which ultimately all modeling applications rely on, remains an outstanding scientific challenge. The goal of the EU-funded project UniTED is to combine theory and new computational approaches to tackle this long-standing problem and enhance our fundamental understanding of highly turbulent flows.
Application Deadline:
5. Fully Funded PhD in Development of layered cathode materials for Na-ion batteries
Summary of Funded PhD Program
We are seeking a highly motivated PhD student (f/m/d) to join our research group at the chair of Inorganic Active Materials for Electrochemical Energy Storage (Prof. Dr. Matteo Bianchini) in the rapidly advancing field of Na-ion batteries. The focus of this position is the development of novel cathode materials with an emphasis on improving capacity through the manipulation of anionic redox reactions via compositional design and morphology optimization.

6. Fully Funded PhD in Computer Simulation of Charge Transport in Organic Semiconductors
Summary of Funded PhD Program
Organic semiconductor (OSC) materials have the potential to disruptively transform a number of industries—such as the IT sector or the field of photovoltaics—and are indeed already being used in some applications. They offer a number of improvements over traditional inorganic semiconductors such as low energetic production costs, novel materials properties and composition of only earth-abundant elements. All experimental and theoretical efforts to designing new OSC materials date mostly considered the properties of the bulk material, often in an idealized setting.
