Do you have a Master’s degree and are looking for fully funded PhD opportunities? Radboud University, Netherlands is now accepting applications for several funded PhD programs across a range of research areas.

1. Fully Funded PhD in Interactive Voice-Based AI for Dementia Care

Summary of Funded PhD Program

In this project you will therefore contribute to the development and evaluation of an interactive voice-based AI system that aims to improve the Quality of Life of elderly PwD. The personalised, enduring and adaptive support of this system is intended to improve over time, based on data-driven learning technologies, and will include an embodied conversational agent that supports PwD in their daily activities and social relations. First versions of such an agent for supporting older adults have been developed and tested in other projects (BLISS and QoLEAD).

2. Fully Funded PhD in Testing a Mindfulness-Based Intervention for Distressed Romantic Couples

Summary of Funded PhD Program

We are starting an NWO financed project to study the effects of a mindfulness-based intervention among distressed romantic couples. Many claims have been made about the potential of mindfulness to improve relationship wellbeing, but such claims have not been tested systematically. The current study will be the first large-scale study to do so, using rigorous methods and being well-grounded in scientific theories of mindfulness and relationships. In addition to self-report measures, the project will make use of behavioural observation, implicit relationship evaluation measures, and physiological measurements. A thrilling aspect of the project is that the study will be designed in collaboration with a prominent mindfulness skeptic as an ‘adversarial collaborator’.

3. Fully Funded PhD in Evidence-Driven Black-Box Checking

Summary of Funded PhD Program

Your main responsibilities as a PhD candidate will be to conduct cutting-edge research within the NWO project Evidence-Driven Black-Box Checking (EVI). Black-box checking (BBC) is an approach in which, during testing, a state-transition model is constructed of the system under test using active learning algorithms. This approach allows testers to routinely find ’deep’ software bugs that are virtually impossible to find using other methods. The EVI project will tackle some fundamental open questions within the context of the BBC approach.

Application Deadline: 16 October 2024

4. Fully Funded PhD in Single-Cell Computational Biology

Summary of Funded PhD Program

Current sequencing technologies provide unprecedented resolution into cellular processes at the scale of individual cells. Yet, the size and availability of this data pose novel theoretical and computational challenges. As a PhD candidate, you will contribute to the expansion of this knowledge, broadening our understanding of the molecular bases driving development and disease, working at the Radboud Institute for Molecular Life Sciences (RIMLS).
