Summary of Funded PhD Program

Agricultural landscapes in Central Europe offer a great potential for biodiversity. In particular, increasing intensification, structural change and land consolidation in favour of greater resource efficiency have put biodiversity in the agricultural landscape under increasing pressure. In addition, however, biodiversity is also threatened by increasing succession on extensive permanent grassland areas in marginal yield locations. In recent years, knowledge of the role of crop management and management of the agricultural landscape in promoting biodiversity has grown steadily.

3. Fully Funded PhD in Rumen microbiome and methane emissions

Summary of Funded PhD Program

The PhD project will be part of a BLE funded project “Sustainable reduction of methane emissions on dairy cow farms using breeding strategies while improving feed efficiency and animal health at the same time (MethaBreed)“. The goal is to identify microbial taxa which can be correlated to certain methane emission values in dairy cows. A large cohort of cows will be sampled, which means that the PhD student has to drive around and take rumen samples independently.
