We are looking for highly motivated PhD candidates or postdoc holding a Master’s, or PhD degree in computer science, computational biology, bioinformatics, or similar. A strong background in computational biology, Machine Learning, pytorch or similar deep learning libraries is required. Successful candidates will be part of an international team of PhD students and postdocs that works at the forefront of scientific research. The PhD student will be a member of the Heidelberg Biosciences International Graduate School (HBIGS) (www.hbigs.uni-heidelberg.de/) or the Heidelberg Graduate School of Mathematical and Computational Methods for the Sciences (HGS MathComp) (www.mathcomp.uni-heidelberg.de/home).

2. Fully Funded PhD

Summary of Funded PhD Program

The project will offer in-depth training in neurobiology of marine zooplankton, neuro-evo-devo and volume electron microscopy (vEM). One goal will be to obtain a high-quality full-body EM volume of a juvenile-stage Platynereis dumerilii and to analyse the volume in collaboration with other members of the group and other students of the ZooCell network

The Bioprinting Lab investigates biofabrication technologies and biomaterials suitable for in vivo and in vitro tissue and organ engineering, and their impact on the structure and function of natural and synthetic living tissues. Your task will be to establish and optimize culture protocols of human pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and iPSC-derived cardiomyocytes, as well as to analyse and characterize the expression of light-sensitive proteins.
