1. Fully Funded PhD in Financial Challenges Facing Journalism
Summary of Funded PhD Program
This PhD project focuses on the financial challenges that journalism faces and how journalists and citizens deal with and understand issues related to the willingness to consume news; ideally, in a paid kind of format. Otherwise, media become dependent on other financers or subsidisers, which potentially harms their independence or the perception of independence in the public’s eye.

2. Fully Funded PhD in Political Corruption and Media
Summary of Funded PhD Program
The PhD project is based on the premise that democracy today is being put to the test. Confidence in democracy is at a low point, and illiberal democracies are on the rise in many countries, including the EU that, according to some, may be facing its own wave of autocratization. One of the reasons for the increasing dissatisfaction or lack of trust in democratic institutions is the presence of (whether real or perceived) political corruption. Still, we do not know enough about the role of political corruption in democratic erosion processes or how to “rescue” democracies from its effects.
